To be a knight - First attempt

the-lonely-knight:

He just watched her trying to mind his manners and his temper with the girl. Although that became harder as she rose to her feet. She kept that sickly sweet smile on her face, like all this was perfectly normal. Like there was nothing wrong with getting up during mid conversation. He would of thought a lady of her standing should know better. Then she picked up and drank from his cup, the cup he had held only moments ago.

Elliot had only had that happened to him once, and that was with a certain servant of the Rainsworth household. And apparently the two of them seemed to fairly close. Was that the reason for all this, was his bad habits rubbing off on the young girl. It was rather annoying to say the least, why could she just act like a normal being. Have a plain face, or show some other expression instead of smiling. It was off putting, for the young boy.

Then the young girl spoke, and the words that came out made the beige haired male feel a fury burn up inside of him. Was this the main point of it all, to toy with him, to tease him. He knew that some chains could have a certain effect on one’s being. Since a lot of the time Vincent had claimed he felt lethargic, and that was his reason for spending most of his time in his quarters. Or passing out during a conversation, at social gathering. So could Lady Sharon’s chain be effecting her.

If so she was on her own ground, and there wasn’t much he could do to stop her from having her ways. After all if he did lose his temper there would be hell to pay from the high members of his family. He’d only sully the name further and that was not his intentions at all.

“I’m hardly a Prince Miss Rainsworth. I have my studies and my sword practices. Other then that the maids and servants wait on me no more then they do on you. Also I’d watch that tone, I know your older then me Miss Rainsworth, but that tone is some what unbecoming of you. You sound just like a commoner.”

He spat out the last few words, it was all he could do to calm the seething rage that was throwing a tantrum in his head. It wanted to push all the buttons that would make him do damage. So many times it had won, however the comments had usually came from men. Never women, and that was why he was trying to hold back. After all he’d be a hypocrite if he said that and then hit a young woman.

Ernest had always said, that common folk hurt ladies and spouses. That nobles would never raise a hand to them. Yet for some reason the urge to hurt her was still bubbling. He would not fail his brothers, he’d lose his head probably since they were on her home. No doubt that dithering servant would come to her aid, and that would be Elliot down right dead as a dodo.

Of course she had pulled all the right strings, pushing the boy exactly where she wanted him to be, close to a tantrum. To be honest, Sharon was surprised he still held on and remained so polite, she had probably misjudged him. Nevertheless, she could hear the contained anger vibrating in his voice. He would break, become Elliot instead of the Nightray heir, if she just pushed him a bit further. But she found herself not wanting this.

He had won. She had selfishly wanted him to lash his anger at her, showing manners of an animal, thinking it’d make her feel better. But he had done none of this, staying respectable, like she should have done. And now she had no clue how to apologize. How to make up for what could have cost her her reputation. She knew the boy wasn’t one to spread ill rumors, but even though, she felt so very shameful at that moment.

Still staring through the window, she watched as the wind blew some leaves from the trees, lost in her thoughts. Her hand came resting on the glass as she listened to the boy. Surely right now he was doing all he could not to throw a chair at her. It was in his right to do so after all she’d told him, but she was still thanksful he did none of this.

“… What would be so wrong about being a commoner? No duties or hope set upon you ever since your birth, being yourself only…. Doing whatever you want day by day…”

Once again she hadn’t watched her words, just letting the trail of her thoughts flow on her tongue. She didn’t dare turn and look at him. She was not even sure she was addressing him, more certainly only talking to herself. And what a silly talk, what silly thoughts, about a life she knew nothing of. Only desiring change and freedom. She let the tip of her fingers glide down the window, and finally mastered the courage to turn to face him again, but her eyes not leaving the ground just yet.

“I was being odious…”

Sharon wouldn’t ask him to forgive her, she wasn’t naive enough to think you could repare hurt with two litte words like this. She would wait until he would, by himself, decide to let it go.
